Coffee Talk with Carol Harrold of Carol Harrold Photography

WC: How did you get started in photography?

CH: I can hardly remember when I wasn't in photography. It must have been my father's influence, as he was always experimenting with photographs, enlarging favorites and framing them for our house. After high school, I knew that to attend art school and study photography was my fate. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in commercial photography two years later and was ready for the next step. I realized working for professionals was essential to making a business for myself. I had the opportunity to work for dozens of very talented commercial and advertising photographers. It wasn't until I started working with a wedding photographer, that I realized the joy of making families happy with your photos. That was 12 years ago. Now, after hundreds of weddings, I still find the work to be very rewarding, and what I was destined to do.

WC: What kind of photographic style are you known for?

CH: A blend of styles. I call it narrative, as the photos tell a story, and represent your event as it was designed. I also feel strongly about making beautiful portraits of families and friends. This does not have to be done in a way that is stiff and unnatural, but indeed professional and with some thoughtful composition. Service is important to me. I strive to make sure that you and your families are enjoying the photography process, as well as keeping on track with your wants and needs.

WC: Do you photograph in black-and-white, color, or both?

CH: Yes, I shoot both color and black and white film. I haven't a favorite. If my clients have a desire for more of one than the other, then that is what I'll do.

WC: What advice do you offer to couples searching for a wedding photographer?

CH: Experience, personality, flexibility, professionalism, and of course, lots of portfolios to view.

WC: In your opinion, while planning their wedding, what can the couple do to help maximize the value of the photographer at the wedding?

CH: Scheduling time for photos in a manner that is sufficient and convenient. AND: have a really good time at your wedding!

WC: Do you photograph weddings outside of Seattle?

CH: Throughout the Northwest only.
